Which of my 50 watches should I wear to San Francisco opera?

Serious answers only, please! Violators will be reported. With "white tie" formal ensemble, which of my 50 watches are appropriate? Here is a sample of ten: 1. $12,500 Vacheron Constantin "Patrimony XL", 2.$12,100 Cartier "Tank L.C.", 3. $10,700 Cartier "Santos Dumont", 4.$14,200 Breguet "5157", 5.$15,000 Patek Philippe "5120", 6.$9600 Jaeger-LeCoultre "Reverso G.T.", 7.$28,200 Breguet "Marine", 8.$21,000 Audemars Piguet "Royal Oak", 9.$38,300 Blancpain "4246F", 10.$55,900 Breguet "5257"! All are 18 kt. gold. Most have leather straps, but #7 has a gold bracelet. An old tradition says one should not wear a watch with the most formal clothing, but many men ignore that now.|||Wear the one you like best. It is a watch nobody is going to notice or be impressed by what you paid for it.|||If you really had all those watches, you'd be way more sophisticated than to be even posting on Yahoo Answers, let alone asking any of us peons here to be helping you with your fashion questions. Ask some of your fellow high-class consumers for advice.

Also, you would be smarter than to post a fashion question in the travel section.

If you're so concerned about being proper, then why are you willing to flout convention be wearing a watch with formal clothing? This country is really going to the dogs....|||Wear all 50 and walk thru the tenderloin, and get a real san Francisco experience.|||I hate materialistic people who would be dumb enough to spend that much on a watch. Look at me look at me and my 50,000 dollar watch. You got ripped off.|||report this JO...OHHH violators will be reported wow ...|||50 watches and no fashion sense, wheres the logic|||Wear all 50 !|||%26gt;Here is a sample of ten: 1. $12,500 Vacheron Constantin "Patrimony XL", 2.$12,100 Cartier "Tank L.C.", 3. $10,700 Cartier "Santos Dumont", 4.$14,200 Breguet "5157", 5.$15,000 Patek Philippe "5120", 6.$9600 Jaeger-LeCoultre "Reverso G.T.", 7.$28,200 Breguet "Marine", 8.$21,000 Audemars Piguet "Royal Oak", 9.$38,300 Blancpain "4246F", 10.$55,900 Breguet "5257"! All are 18 kt. gold. Most have leather straps, but #7 has a gold bracelet.

Just have a T-Shirt printed in the above in BIG, BOLD LETTERS. Then everyone will know just how tasteless you are without even asking.

Oh yeah - I'm very serious.|||My Brueget Marine is stainless steel and that is the only option. Hence the name.

As far as old tradition, wearing a fob with tailcoats in the Victorian Age was the fashion and continued until the 1920s. This era saw the emergence of wrist watches, the first popular early watches were produced by Waltham. As a new piece of fashion, the wrist watch had immense popularity and fobs were put in the closet to be worn only on special occasions. At no time was the wearing of a watch seen to be in bad taste as they were generally not on display unless a gentleman drew his sleeve back to glance at the time. Some took that action as rude being an indication that one was wishing to leave.

We can thank Dick Tracy for securing a status position for the wrist watch as he was often seen scrutinizing his timepiece while collecting evidence in comic books and later in animations. The next big boost for the wrist watch came when batteries were introduced and relieved the need to remember to wind your timepiece. Then came waterproof wrist watches, allowing casual wear without fear of damage. Finally, the digital era made these time pieces affordable for anyone.

Are we rejecting simple life for "success", "power" and "money"?

I think so. We spend long hours working. We are obsessed with material stuffs like big screens tv [I have a simple tv with dvd and vhs], powerful cars [I used the public transportation], wear a Casio watch [too many wants Rolex or Philippe Patek watches] and eat frugally. Yet people like me are consider "losers". What do you think?|||some people do take it overboard, i have to admit

but we all have to admit that having things is nice

there is a certain level where a person is supposed to want better for themselves and their family

if you stop setting goals for yourself you end up stagnate. even if those goals are just things they are better than stopping altogether

you sound as if you are happy w/ very little which is all good and well. but i bet even you want some of things that you mentioned, for whatever reason you have given up on the dream over time|||People can own their possesions or let their possesions own them...|||You are normal.|||I think you're right. The more 'advanced' we become, the more 'behind' we get.|||I think it has a lot to do with advertising and the consumer lifestyle it promotes.|||I feel that we are forgetting what real life is as a generation. We care more about our personal belongings than relationships with people. I agree with taking the bus or train. When my bike was working , i used to ride my bike to school, basically everywhere. People need to wake up and realize that physical things in society are the devil. And i'm not talking about no demon or guy with horns. i'm talking about that the physical is weak. Mental power is the greatest tool. The mind is like a gun you'll get blasted.|||a lot of people yes. and for what? so they can enjoy life. but really happiness doesn't come from that. Men shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God Matthew 4:4|||I like what technology has to offer these days, i want to be able to go into a shop and say i want to buy that, for her or for me.

I mean i can't do without the Internet and what society has to offer today, that's why we are here, asking and answering these questions.

Yeah probably going back to the old days can be a breath of fresh air once and a while but at the end of the day we have progressed and so will are children!!!!!|||I agree with everything except for the little part where you stated success was not a good thing... success comes from those who try to live a good life, and it may not always be a part of power and money. To be successful is to be happy of what you get from simple life.

How Would You Rank These Premium Watch Brands?

I have an Omega Seamaster GMT that I got a good 4 years ago now. I love it, its been dead accurate for me day in and day out as an every day watch that I wear to the office and everywhere else. I was wondering from actual watch collectors what watches were preferred for quality, durability, accuracy and overall value. I have included a list of brands I have come across through my friends, business associates, ect. If you could rank these watches I'd be interested in your thoughts and feel free to add a brand that I have missed if you feel it is nessisary.

Audemars Piguet

Baume %26amp; Mercier

Bulova

Cartier

Fortis

Girard Perregaux

Montblanc

Movado

Omega

Oris

Patek Philippe

Zenith|||Brands that I would add to your list:

Panerai, Hamilton, IWC, A. Lange %26amp; Sohne, Stowa, Laco (Lacher %26amp; Co.,) Ball, Sinn... A few of the brands are not as expensive as some of those listed, but they hold their own in quality, durability, accuracy, overall value, and history.

A few that I would remove:

Movado, Tissot... Just my humble opinion.|||most of those are very expensive. i like fossil watches, they are like $50-150 but they are tough and there are alot of them. some are fun and some are serious.

Can anyone help getting an estimate on worth of an old Tiffany's clock?

I used to work at an Ourisman Chevrolet dealership and I was the only one allowed to go into Mr. Mandell Ourisman's office to clean it up. One day he threw away a porcelein eagle head, a pen holder and an old Tiffany's clock. It's a Patek Philippe and it's gold colored. On the back it says "Mandell J. Ourisman with grateful appreciation from Covington %26amp; Burling. December 1966"

I have no clue why anyone would throw this away. Maybe it doesn't work but I haven't had a chance to put a battery in it. Still, I would like to know if anyone would have an estimate on it's worth. I've been very very curious for these past years. Thanks.

*If a picture is needed please let me know!*|||I THINK I know what it is, but you should take it to a VERY good jeweler. He will tell you all about it. It may cost you, but I have a hunch it will be worth a professional appraisal.

If you do do this, please let me know what you find out.|||I worked with old clocks for years but don't recognise your description. If you email me a pic I could estimate value.

Why do you think many people believe Rolex is the costliest watch brand?

I heard much about Rolexes when I was a boy, so I bought one soon after graduation from college. In the early 1990's, I saw that among automatic 4-function sports watches with gold bracelets, the Rolex "OP Datejust" cost $13,150. My comparable Breguet "Marine" cost $29,500 and was the costliest of its type. Recently, among 2-function hand-wind gold dress watches with leather straps, my Patek Philippe cost $15,000, my Vacheron Constantin cost $13,300 and my 2 Cartiers cost $12,300 and $12,100, while a comparable Rolex cost $3650. My basic dress watches cost 3.31 to 4.11 times as much as a comparable Rolex, and my sports watch cost 2.24 times as much. My pal Ken Fong insisted that Rolex is the costliest brand, as many people do. He was speechless when I showed him price lists I made of various types of watches, and he saw that Rolex was always well below the costliest on all of my many lists. I just wonder why people overestimate so many things, e.g. the relative prices of Rolex watches.|||Unless like myself you know the difference between the upper echelon of watches all they know is what they see advertisements for and Rolex has the most advertising. They see a Rolex advertised for 12,990 and they think it is expensive however were they to go to a showing they may see some watches that fetch 30-40,000 and they would recieve an education.|||Good answer, since I see Rolex spent $47, 100, 000 on advertising in the USA alone in 2007. Next to it were Breitling and TAG Heuer with about half that much. Rolex is hyped and thus overestimated.

watchmaker rolex mass produce them and also, rolex spends more on advertising then the High grade watches do like the ones you listed|||the ROLEX watch is very expensive thats why most poeple buy it but there are different watches thats way more than the ROLEX watch.|||Because they don't know about the other brands you mentioned.

Do you know I've done it again....?

After the success of my last forage through my spam box and the fantastic answers that I got...

I thought I'd have another go....

One could take this several different ways....will "she" update your penis by whispering what Hillary had to say in her speech (because no one gives dick about that)?...OR will "she" ....well...you know..I could get really graphic at this point and be banned from answers.|||Ok none of us mind if you have done it again.|||Definitely Willie Voss - I'd love to update your penis, Nellie.|||WTF? we don't even care about this dude. And also get a life
