Which of my 50 watches should I wear to San Francisco opera?

Serious answers only, please! Violators will be reported. With "white tie" formal ensemble, which of my 50 watches are appropriate? Here is a sample of ten: 1. $12,500 Vacheron Constantin "Patrimony XL", 2.$12,100 Cartier "Tank L.C.", 3. $10,700 Cartier "Santos Dumont", 4.$14,200 Breguet "5157", 5.$15,000 Patek Philippe "5120", 6.$9600 Jaeger-LeCoultre "Reverso G.T.", 7.$28,200 Breguet "Marine", 8.$21,000 Audemars Piguet "Royal Oak", 9.$38,300 Blancpain "4246F", 10.$55,900 Breguet "5257"! All are 18 kt. gold. Most have leather straps, but #7 has a gold bracelet. An old tradition says one should not wear a watch with the most formal clothing, but many men ignore that now.|||Wear the one you like best. It is a watch nobody is going to notice or be impressed by what you paid for it.|||If you really had all those watches, you'd be way more sophisticated than to be even posting on Yahoo Answers, let alone asking any of us peons here to be helping you with your fashion questions. Ask some of your fellow high-class consumers for advice.

Also, you would be smarter than to post a fashion question in the travel section.

If you're so concerned about being proper, then why are you willing to flout convention be wearing a watch with formal clothing? This country is really going to the dogs....|||Wear all 50 and walk thru the tenderloin, and get a real san Francisco experience.|||I hate materialistic people who would be dumb enough to spend that much on a watch. Look at me look at me and my 50,000 dollar watch. You got ripped off.|||report this JO...OHHH violators will be reported wow ...|||50 watches and no fashion sense, wheres the logic|||Wear all 50 !|||%26gt;Here is a sample of ten: 1. $12,500 Vacheron Constantin "Patrimony XL", 2.$12,100 Cartier "Tank L.C.", 3. $10,700 Cartier "Santos Dumont", 4.$14,200 Breguet "5157", 5.$15,000 Patek Philippe "5120", 6.$9600 Jaeger-LeCoultre "Reverso G.T.", 7.$28,200 Breguet "Marine", 8.$21,000 Audemars Piguet "Royal Oak", 9.$38,300 Blancpain "4246F", 10.$55,900 Breguet "5257"! All are 18 kt. gold. Most have leather straps, but #7 has a gold bracelet.

Just have a T-Shirt printed in the above in BIG, BOLD LETTERS. Then everyone will know just how tasteless you are without even asking.

Oh yeah - I'm very serious.|||My Brueget Marine is stainless steel and that is the only option. Hence the name.

As far as old tradition, wearing a fob with tailcoats in the Victorian Age was the fashion and continued until the 1920s. This era saw the emergence of wrist watches, the first popular early watches were produced by Waltham. As a new piece of fashion, the wrist watch had immense popularity and fobs were put in the closet to be worn only on special occasions. At no time was the wearing of a watch seen to be in bad taste as they were generally not on display unless a gentleman drew his sleeve back to glance at the time. Some took that action as rude being an indication that one was wishing to leave.

We can thank Dick Tracy for securing a status position for the wrist watch as he was often seen scrutinizing his timepiece while collecting evidence in comic books and later in animations. The next big boost for the wrist watch came when batteries were introduced and relieved the need to remember to wind your timepiece. Then came waterproof wrist watches, allowing casual wear without fear of damage. Finally, the digital era made these time pieces affordable for anyone.

Are we rejecting simple life for "success", "power" and "money"?

I think so. We spend long hours working. We are obsessed with material stuffs like big screens tv [I have a simple tv with dvd and vhs], powerful cars [I used the public transportation], wear a Casio watch [too many wants Rolex or Philippe Patek watches] and eat frugally. Yet people like me are consider "losers". What do you think?|||some people do take it overboard, i have to admit

but we all have to admit that having things is nice

there is a certain level where a person is supposed to want better for themselves and their family

if you stop setting goals for yourself you end up stagnate. even if those goals are just things they are better than stopping altogether

you sound as if you are happy w/ very little which is all good and well. but i bet even you want some of things that you mentioned, for whatever reason you have given up on the dream over time|||People can own their possesions or let their possesions own them...|||You are normal.|||I think you're right. The more 'advanced' we become, the more 'behind' we get.|||I think it has a lot to do with advertising and the consumer lifestyle it promotes.|||I feel that we are forgetting what real life is as a generation. We care more about our personal belongings than relationships with people. I agree with taking the bus or train. When my bike was working , i used to ride my bike to school, basically everywhere. People need to wake up and realize that physical things in society are the devil. And i'm not talking about no demon or guy with horns. i'm talking about that the physical is weak. Mental power is the greatest tool. The mind is like a gun you'll get blasted.|||a lot of people yes. and for what? so they can enjoy life. but really happiness doesn't come from that. Men shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God Matthew 4:4|||I like what technology has to offer these days, i want to be able to go into a shop and say i want to buy that, for her or for me.

I mean i can't do without the Internet and what society has to offer today, that's why we are here, asking and answering these questions.

Yeah probably going back to the old days can be a breath of fresh air once and a while but at the end of the day we have progressed and so will are children!!!!!|||I agree with everything except for the little part where you stated success was not a good thing... success comes from those who try to live a good life, and it may not always be a part of power and money. To be successful is to be happy of what you get from simple life.

How Would You Rank These Premium Watch Brands?

I have an Omega Seamaster GMT that I got a good 4 years ago now. I love it, its been dead accurate for me day in and day out as an every day watch that I wear to the office and everywhere else. I was wondering from actual watch collectors what watches were preferred for quality, durability, accuracy and overall value. I have included a list of brands I have come across through my friends, business associates, ect. If you could rank these watches I'd be interested in your thoughts and feel free to add a brand that I have missed if you feel it is nessisary.

Can anyone help getting an estimate on worth of an old Tiffany's clock?

I used to work at an Ourisman Chevrolet dealership and I was the only one allowed to go into Mr. Mandell Ourisman's office to clean it up. One day he threw away a porcelein eagle head, a pen holder and an old Tiffany's clock. It's a Patek Philippe and it's gold colored. On the back it says "Mandell J. Ourisman with grateful appreciation from Covington %26amp; Burling. December 1966"

I have no clue why anyone would throw this away. Maybe it doesn't work but I haven't had a chance to put a battery in it. Still, I would like to know if anyone would have an estimate on it's worth. I've been very very curious for these past years. Thanks.

*If a picture is needed please let me know!*|||I THINK I know what it is, but you should take it to a VERY good jeweler. He will tell you all about it. It may cost you, but I have a hunch it will be worth a professional appraisal.

If you do do this, please let me know what you find out.|||I worked with old clocks for years but don't recognise your description. If you email me a pic I could estimate value.

Why do you think many people believe Rolex is the costliest watch brand?

I heard much about Rolexes when I was a boy, so I bought one soon after graduation from college. In the early 1990's, I saw that among automatic 4-function sports watches with gold bracelets, the Rolex "OP Datejust" cost $13,150. My comparable Breguet "Marine" cost $29,500 and was the costliest of its type. Recently, among 2-function hand-wind gold dress watches with leather straps, my Patek Philippe cost $15,000, my Vacheron Constantin cost $13,300 and my 2 Cartiers cost $12,300 and $12,100, while a comparable Rolex cost $3650. My basic dress watches cost 3.31 to 4.11 times as much as a comparable Rolex, and my sports watch cost 2.24 times as much. My pal Ken Fong insisted that Rolex is the costliest brand, as many people do. He was speechless when I showed him price lists I made of various types of watches, and he saw that Rolex was always well below the costliest on all of my many lists. I just wonder why people overestimate so many things, e.g. the relative prices of Rolex watches.|||Unless like myself you know the difference between the upper echelon of watches all they know is what they see advertisements for and Rolex has the most advertising. They see a Rolex advertised for 12,990 and they think it is expensive however were they to go to a showing they may see some watches that fetch 30-40,000 and they would recieve an education.|||Good answer, since I see Rolex spent $47, 100, 000 on advertising in the USA alone in 2007. Next to it were Breitling and TAG Heuer with about half that much. Rolex is hyped and thus overestimated.

What brand and model of watch did you wear today and yesterday?

I now wear a LeCoultre "Futurematic" that debuted in 1953. It has a self-wind mechanical movement that displays hours, minutes, seconds and power reserve. It tells me my watch will run 30 more hours if I do not wind it by moving my wrist. It has an 18 karat yellow gold round case 36 mm in diameter with fancy Art Deco strap lugs and a disc on the back for setting the time, so there is no crown at 3.00 on the case band. The dial is champagne enamel with small gold triangle markers at the hours (2 larger ones at 12:00) and black dashes for minutes, larger at 5 minute intervals. It has two sub-dials. One at 3:00 on the main dial shows seconds, and one at 9:00 shows power reserve in hours. Hands are gold Dauphine-style in 3 sizes. The strap is sienna (reddish brown) crocodile skin with a gold buckle.

Yesterday, I wore a Tiffany %26amp; Co, "Classic" with manual-wind mechanical movement that displays hours, minutes and seconds (of solar mean time to be specific). It is just a bit smaller than the "Futurematic" with round 18kt. yellow gold case and plainer lugs. The dial is white enamel with gold bar hour markers but no minute markers. A sub-dial at 6:00 shows seconds. Hands are gold baton-style. The strap is black lizard skin with gold buckle.

Antoine LeCoultre began making watch movements in 1833. His grandson David LeCoultre took master watch-maker Edmund Jaeger as a partner at an uncertain date, probably about 1920-1927. I own 1952 and 1953 watches labeled "LeCoultre" and a 1956 one labeled "Jaeger-LeCoultre".

Charles Lewis Tiffany and John P. Young opened a department store in New York in 1837. Later, they took several partners, and the firm was incorporated as "Tiffany %26amp; Company" in 1851. They sold jewelry and introduced Patek Philippe watches to the USA. They eventually began making their own watches too. I once lived about 10 years 2.5 blocks from San Francisco's Tiffany %26amp; Co. store at about 450 Post Street I think.

5 POINTS FOR THE MOST THOUROUGH DESCRIPTION OF AN EXCELLENT WATCH!|||I just wear a plain and simple Timex...with a leather strap.I have had it for five years and it has not given me any problems....and I wear it every day. I just need a watch that is basic for every day use. It is oval and has a second hand to count the seconds. The strap is black leather and the is at least 10 years old.|||I own several fine watches. Today, I'm wearing my Vacheron Constantin model "1972" that has a Vacheron Calibre 1202 quartz movement for hours and minutes only. It has an 18 kt. yellow gold parallelogram case that is 23.5 mm wide. The long side at 9:00 is 34 mm. in length, and the short one at 3:00 is 28.5 mm. It has 46 brilliant cut diamonds on the bezel around the dial. The dial is mother-of-pearl with black Roman numerals III, VI, IX and XII and black dashes for the other hours. The hands are gold gladius-style. The strap is reddish tan crocodile skin with a gold ardillon buckle. About 10-15 years ago, Vacheron charged $100 for such a strap and $600 for the gold buckle, but the price of gold has increased much, so I suppose the buckle would cost about $1200-$1500 by now. My "1972" model watch cost $12,100 in 2006.

Yesterday, I wore my Patek Philippe "Twenty-4" with Patek Calibre C E1 5" quartz movement for hours and minutes only. The case is a steel 25X30 mm. rectangle with diamonds on the sides at 3:00 and 9:00. It has a white dial with ten diamond hour markers and Roman numerals VI and XII. It is held on my wrist by a steel bracelet with rectangular links longer horizontally than vertically. It cost $11,500 in 2009.

I own seven nice watches. Cheapest is a Rolex "Lady Datejust" that cost $7025 in steel and gold with bracelet recently.|||I don't wear a watch, because if I do, it stops.|||This week, I have worn a basic Poljot watch that my father bought and later gave to me. "Poljot" means "Flight" in Russian, and this brand was an important one in my country. It is no longer in business now, but some movements by Poljot are still used by brands Vostok makes. Russian watches are not as costly as Swiss ones.|||I born Japan, today wear Omega "Seamaster Aqua Terra Co-Axial" self-wind movement show hour, minute, second and date, 30 mm. round steel case, 18 karat rose gold bezel, glass back, water-resistant 150 meters, black dial have rose gold and tritium triangles so hour markers, rose gold hands have tritium inlays, hour hand is dauphine, minute hand is dauphine have arrow tip, have steel and rose gold bracelet, cost $5900 now.

Yesterday wear Seiko "Le Grand Sport" quartz watch show hour, minute, second and date, 27 mm. round steel case and bracelet have gold-tone accents, have diamonds at bezel all around dial, mother-of-pearl dial have gold-tone VI, XII and triangles so hour markers, gold-tone leaf hands, cost $625 now.|||My country China makes cheap copies of some costly watch brands. I wore one yesterday labeled Solina that copies a Cartier "Panthere" with square case in white and yellow tones and matching bracelet; white dial with full black Roman numerals and minutes track; and blue steel sword hands, all just like the real Cartier. Today, I am wearing a round gold-colored skeleton watch with no label that has a hand-wind movement and has hands for hours, minutes and seconds. Skeleton watches have glass on the front and back to show the movements. It has a thin black leather strap with crocodile pattern. The whole watch cost less than a real crocodile strap, however.|||I dont wear a watch.

What sort of Retard leaves millions of dollars in Jewelry in their house?!?

Seriously. I know some very wealthy individuals...and none of them leaves much of anything overly valuable in their house. Maybe a Patek Philippe,or a Lange %26amp; Sohne or two...maybe some high dollar but often worn pieces...but NEVER anything over a few hundred thousand. That is what off site safe deposit vaults are for, stuff you have but only wear once in awhile. Why do some people believe Rolex is the costliest watch brand?

Some of us know a Chinese guy Ken Fong who says many things that make us scratch our heads. He said one of his friends said Rolex is the costliest watch brand, and many people seem to agree with that. I saw some questions on here that indicate such a belief. One of my friends has a 2008 watch almanac, and I will now give prices from it of ten sports wristwatches with steel cases and bracelets and self-wind movements for showing hours, minutes, seconds and date in a countdown from cheapest to costliest.

9. $5050 Rolex "Oyster Perpetual Datejust" ($5450 in 2010, I hear)

8a. $5600 IWC "Ingenieur" is 1.11 times costlier than the comparable Rolex

8b. $5600 Ulysse Nardin "San Marco" is also 1.11 times costlier

7. $6900 Glashutte Original "Sport Evolution M" is 1.37 times costlier

6. $8100 Panerai "Luminor Marina Automatic" is 1.60 times costlier

5. $8300 Franck Muller "Conquistador" is 1.64 times costlier

4. $10,400 Vacheron Constantin "Overseas" is 2.02 times costlier ($11,600 in 2010)

3. $11,200 Audemars Piguet "Royal Oak" is 2.22 times costlier

2. $13,500 Breguet "Marine" is 2.67 times costlier

1. $20,600 Patek Philippe "Nautilus" is 4.08 times costlier than the similar Rolex ($23,000 in 2010)

I can make lists of other types of watches and they also prove my point. A list of basic dress watches has even more difference in price that this one of basic sports watches. Rolex's most complicated watch is a "Cosmograph Daytona" chronograph, but the other companies listed here make much more complicated watches than chronographs. The ultimate single complication is the chiming watch, and costliest is Vacheron Constantin's "30010" minute repeater for $631,000 in a platinum skeleton version. Franck Muller's "Aeternitas Mega 4" combines all of the major complications for $2,700,000. Rolex's costliest watch is one with many diamonds for $120,000, but Vacheron Constantin's "Kallista" was valued at $9,000,000 in 2000 and is totally covered with many big diamonds perfectly matched for color. The most valuable watch of all cost someone $11,002,500 in 1999. It is the Patek Philippe "Graves Supercomplication" that was finished in 1932 for banker Henry Graves, Junior who wanted to own the most complicated pocketwatch in the world.|||1905 Hans Wilsdorf begin watch making, 1908 he invent name Rolex and use it at his watches. Many people believe what they see at news media. Rolex have largest advertising budget of any watch brand, thus everyone hear of Rolex, not know some better brands, since they not advertise much. Here are some figures of 2007 USA advertising budgets of some watch brands.

1. Rolex - $47,100,000

2. Breitling - $27,070,000

3. TAG Heuer - $24,730,000

4. Citizen - $19,850,000

5. Movado - $15,870,000

6. Cartier - $15,040,000

7. Seiko - $11,020,000

8. Timex - $10,210,000

9. ESQ - $9,360,000

10. Omega - $9,250,000

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...

14. Patek Philippe - $6,030,000

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...

19. Jaeger-LeCoultre - $4,770,000

20. IWC - $4,420,000

21. Ulysse Nardin - $4,280,000

Rolex spend nearly 8 times so much so Patek Philippe, thus more people hear of Rolex compared of Patek Philippe. My lover Kyojin own 1893 Patek Philippe watch, it is so accurate so most new watches.|||One of my former boyfriends wrote several books about watches. One rates the costliest brands, and Breguet was costliest overall in the first three editions of his book. Patek Philippe placed second twice and fourth once. Vacheron Constantin placed third twice and second once. A. Lange of Germany rivals the top three Swiss brands by placing third once and fourth once. It was not rated in the first edition of the book, because it had few models and could not be firmly rated. The next brands have changed over the years. Prices change erratically. Between the first and second editions, Cartier increased its prices by 16.67%, but Piaget increased some of its prices by a whopping 45%, and thus Piaget moved up from 14th to 8th place, and Cartier dropped from 12th to 14th. Blancpain decreased most of its prices by a large amount, e.g. the basic dress watch dropped from $9050 to $7000, so Blancpain that was in the top five dropped to barely in the top twenty. Rolex placed 24th.

Another book gives details about the beginnings of watch brands and the ranges of prices and types each offers. Rolex was begun by Hans Wilsdorf in 1908 as the new name for Wilsdorf %26amp; Co. that began in 1905. Antoine Norbert de Patek and Francois Czapek began making watches in 1839. In 1845, they hired master watchmaker Adrien Philippe. Soon, Francois Czapek left the business, and the company was incorporated as Patek Philippe, rather than Patek %26amp; Czapek, in 1851.

As a couple of people have said, Rolex is advertised much more than any other brand. It appeals to bourgeois parvenus, while Patek Philippe appeals more to the higher classes and thus does not need so much advertising. Some highly exclusive watchmakers produce low numbers of watches, but they spend more time upon each watch than mass-produced brands do. Rolex has the most COSC rated chronometers of any brand, and that impresses naive people. Jaeger-LeCoulter gives its watches much tougher tests than the COSC does, thus it does not need a COSC rating. A Rolex "Datejust" is a good sports watch, but a Jaeger-LeCoultre "Master" is a really great one. A Patek Philippe "Nautilus" is now the costliest basic sports watch, but some years ago, the Breguet "Marine" was. About 1998, the "Marine cost $29,600 with gold bracelet, while the "Nautilus" cost $28,000". I think the Rolex "Datejust" cost $15,000 then with gold bracelet, and the Jaeger-LeCoultre "Master" cost $18,000 or so. Swatch acquired Breguet and has repositioned it at a lower price for some reason. Rolex is still an independent firm, as is Patek Philippe. They are hardly in the same class, however. Patek Philippe appeals to the highest classes of refined and sophisticated people, and Rolex appeals to the lower middle class who may finance one of its watches for five years, as Jeffrey told us.|||The brand was built up quite simply, They use very costly metals like gold and platinum, combined it with part hand made manufacturing process (DUHH!) and then put a bunch of really expensive gemstones in there in most watches, and then finally to make a profit, they made some cheaper made watches and charged for the but up brand name!!!

To protect the innocent:

Im not in a the watch business but, Im definatly on the marketing and manufacturing side of the subject!|||Many people believe lots of malarkey for no good reason. "Believe" is a good choice of words for you to use in this question, because "beliefs" are blindly accepted without any proof. There are many things that are badly over-rated, e.g. Bruce Lee in martial arts, Mohammed Ali in boxing, Cadillac in cars ... and Rolex in watches. There are PR men, creators of hoaxes, politicians, preachers and such frauds who want to make people believe lies for their own selfish reasons. Miyuki knows her watches I can see. She told the history of Rolex and gave specific figures for the amounts of money spent in America on advertising some watch brands. It's interesting to contrast her figures and yours, e.g. the Patek Philippe "Nautilus" costs 408% the price of the Rolex "Datejust", but Patek spends only 13% as much money on advertising as Rolex does. Most people have no real basis for their naive opinions, and Rolex is hyped. Any product that has such market saturation in advertising as Rolex does is bound to be seen by everyone, so they imagine it's a very good and very costly brand. I own a Rolex "Datejust" I bought soon after graduating from college. Today, I'm wearing a Fortis pilot's watch that costs $2050, but it keeps time better than my $5450 Rolex that cost 273% more. In Houston, I saw a jewelry store that offered five year financing on Rolexes. That shows Roles is the upstart's dream. I don't buy any watch unless I pay cash for it. Long-term financing is for houses and cars, not watches. The ignorant upstarts wear Rolexes, while the sophisticated and classy rich men wear Patek Philippes, Breguets and Vacheron Constantins. I heard someone say Rolex makes more watches in a year than Patek Philippe has in its entire 175 or so year history. That's true of many of the most exclusive watch brands I think.|||Rolex used a massive marketing campaign to help position the brand at the high end, and many people have seen those ads, whereas other brands do not spend as much on mass marketing.

Many brands, including Rolex, offer models that go into six figures.

Why you care enough to bother researching this so carefully is probably the more important question.

Which RDW4fa Watch(es) do you think I should add to my collection?

Arigato (Thank you) for your advice in this matter! I wrote 5 books on watches and use abbreviations in them to save space. RDW = Round Dress Watch, and 4fa = 4-function (hour, minute, second %26amp; date) automatic (self-wind)! I own over 50 watches, including some nice RDW2fm (hour %26amp; minute only manual-wind) models by Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Cartier, Piaget, etc. and a few RDW3fm (hour, minute %26amp; second manual-wind) watches by LeCoultre, Tiffany %26amp; Co., IWC, etc., but my 4fa watches are all Sports Models, so I need a few Dress Models as well. Here are some current models I am considering. Which one or ones should I purchase first do you think?

$25,800R (18kt rose gold) A. Lange %26amp; Sohne "Saxonia 315"

$23,800R, W (18kt white gold) Patek Philippe "Calatrava 5296"

$20,650Y (18kt yellow gold),$21,600W Breguet "Classique 5177"

$20,100W Audemars Piguet "Jules Audemars 15120BC"

$19,300R Paul Picot "Atelier Classic"

$19,100R Vacheron Constantin "Patrimony Contemporaire"

$18,100R Hermes "Dressage DR1.770"

$17,300R Cartier "Ballon Bleu"

$16,100R Parmigiani "Kalpa Tonda"

$15,000R Corum "Romulus 41"

$13,600R Omega "DeVille 431"

$12,800R Glashutte Original "Senator Sixties"

$12,600R Blancpain "Villeret 5223"

$12,450R Chopard "LUC Twin Jose Carreras"

$11,999R Ball "Trainmaster NM1098D"

$11,500R Girard-Perregaux "1966"

$10,800R Faberge "Agathon M1102"

$10,500R Eterna "Vaughan 7360"

$7000R IWC "Portofino"|||There are several considerations in such a choice as this one. One is to consider the movements, and that's an esoteric subject. The Ball, Cartier, IWC, Omega and Paul Picot use generic ETA 2892 movements, so you can do better than that. Frederic Piguet movements are somewhat more exclusive and used in the Blancpain, Corum and Faberge models. Hermes now uses Vaucher movements, so it's fairly exclusive too. Breguet movements are works of art, whatever their source. Piaget made some, and LeMania made some. Now I think LeMania has merged with Breguet and the movements are just labeled Breguet. Some brands use their own movements and are thus much more exclusive than the ones already listed. Brands using their own movements include Audemars Piguet, Chopard, Eterna, Girard-Perreagux, Glashutte Original, A. Lange %26amp; Sohne, Parmigiani, Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin. Patek Philippe's new Calibre 324SC used in the "Calatrava 5296" you list is also used in modified form in other models, including an annual calendar, and it's quite innovative and advanced, so extra consideration should be given to the watch using it. Patek Philippe's other watches of the type you specify use the older calibre 315SC that is less advanced, so by all means buy the "5296". It's a great investment, as some other answers said. Patek Philippe holds its value best of the top brands, so every man who owns costly watches should own several Patek Philippes.|||One of my contacts answered a similar question to this one, and she said that the Patek Philippe is the best investment, because it holds its value best and sells for higher prices at auctions than other brands. The costliest ones are surely the best ones to buy, if you can afford them, and you say you could buy them all. If you want four, buy the A. Lange, Patek, Breguet and Audemars I think.|||I think first buy Patek Philippe, A. Lange %26amp; Sohne, Vacheron Constantin and Breguet, these brands all hold value, are great watches, if want more next buy Audemars Piguet, Blancpain and Cartier, some brands use generic ETA movements, charge high prices of them, not buy Ball or Paul Picot.|||I answered a simpler version of this question recently. A man was considering Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet. I can tell you much the same thing I told the other man. Patek Philippe is the king at auctions, so you should buy it as an investment for certain. The other man bought the Patek "Calatrava 5296R" that is one of your choices, and I think you should too. You already have a "RDW2fm" Patek, so a "RDW4fa" Patek goes well with it. Breguet, Vacheron and A. Lange are next to Patek in prestige, so buy them next. Good third choices would be Audemars, Cartier, Parmigiani and Glashutte I think.|||Go the whole hog and buy the lot at once!!

How much do you think these watches are worth?

I saw a man on Twitter who says he owns over 50 watches made 1893-2005. He invited me to a website he has that shows some of them. I wrote down data on some of them. What are their values do you think?

Digital Camera? 10 points to best answer!?

I currently have a Sony CyberShot DSC-S700. It looks sleek and cool but the picture quality is terrible. I need a new camera that is affordable, but one that would be capable of taking amazing quality photos of luxury watches (up close)

Also, is there anything I can buy that will help me get the white backround you see in proffesional images along with the amazing, equal lighting? Please help for 10 points!|||Your camera is more than able to do that. These images show that it is more than megapixels that make good images. You need a light box and some decent lights. Using a flash directly on the watches will produce ugly pictures.

Take a look at the link below. It shows how to make your own light box studio and set up lighting for great shots. The light box or studio, is how you get that background effect. You can also buy some small light box kits starting around $60.|||I love my kodak camera. It is a z serious. I think they have refurbished ones on the website.

1. Patek Philippe

2. Audemars Piguet

3. Vacheron Constantin

which brand is the best ? I say PP, but my wife wants me to buy AP, but i think both PP %26amp; VC is better

what do you guys think. it's my 1st luxury wristwatch and i dont want to make a mistake.

10 points for a reasonable suggestion :)|||These brands are all Top Ten ones in price and prestige. Patek Philippe sells for higher prices at auctions, so it is the best investment. All of these brands are very high in quality. Patek began in 1839, Vacheron began in 1755, and Audemars began in 1875. I would say, other than an investment, just buy the brand that has the watch you like best. In the sports line, Audemars has the distinctive "Royal Oak", Patek has the "Nautilus", and Vacheron has the "Overseas". In basic round dress models, Patek has the "Calatrava", Vacheron has the "Patrimony", and Audemars has "Jules Audemars" variations. I know a man who owns several watches by each of these brands, including Pateks made in 1893 and 1926, a Vacheron made in 1902, and some recent Audemars. Incidentally, Patek made the most valuable pocketwatch, the 1932 "Graves Supercomplication" that sold for $11,002,500 at a 1999 auction, Vacheron made the most valuable wristwatch, the 1981 "Kallista" that was valued at $9,000,000 in 2000, and Audemars made a wristwatch in 1997 that sold for $2,000,000 then. I have seen a book about the costliest watch brands, and they were 1. Breguet, 2. Patek Philippe, 3. Vacheron Constantin, 4. A. Lange %26amp; Sohne, 5. Harry Winston, 6. Franck Muller, 7. Piaget, 8. Is this how this trickle down economics works? Or is it really flood up?

Millionaires are so last millennium. The new Forbes 400 list of richest Americans is billionaires only.

If you're net worth is a mere $999 million, forget it. A billion means a thousand million, and that's the Forbes 400 minimum -- up from $900 million in 2005.

Donald Trump and two of his kids grace the Forbes 400 cover, but ranked No. 94 with $2.9 billion, Trump's a long way from No. 1 Bill Gates with $53 billion.

The combined wealth of the 400 richest Americans is a record-breaking $1.25 trillion. That's about the same amount of combined wealth held by the 57 million households who make up half the U.S. population.

The economy is booming for billionaires. It's a bust for many other Americans.

A record 400 Americans are billionaires -- and a record 47 million Americans have no health insurance.

America has 400 billionaires -- and 37 million people below the official poverty line.

The official poverty line for one person was just $9,973 in 2005 (latest data). That wouldn't cover the custom-made men's shoes ($4,128) and Hermes purse ($6,250) on the Forbes Cost of Living Extremely Well Index. The official poverty line of $15,577 for a three-person family is lower than the cost of the Patek Philippe men's gold watch ($17,600).

The Forbes 400 minimum is up $100 million since 2005, but the federal minimum wage has been stuck at $5.15 an hour -- just $10,712 a year -- since 1997. GOP leaders in Congress have been holding a raise for minimum wage workers hostage to more giant tax cuts for wealthy inheritors.

Wealth isn't trickling down. It's flooding up -- from workers to bosses, small investors to big, poorer to richer.

The heirs to Wal-Mart founders Sam and Bud Walton have a combined $82.5 billion -- while the children of Wal-Mart workers swell the ranks of state health insurance programs for the neediest.

In today's corporate America, workers see gutted paychecks and pensions despite rising worker productivity, while CEOs get golden pay, perks, pensions and parachutes. The pay gap between average workers and CEOs has grown nine times wider since the 1970s.

The number of billionaires is a record high, but the share of national income going to wages and salaries is at a record low.

U.S. corporate profits increased 21 percent in the past year, Market Watch reported in March. "Profits have been so high because almost all of the benefits from productivity improvements are flowing to the owners of capital rather than to the workers," said Market Watch.

The wealthiest 1 percent of Americans (minimum net worth $6 million) owned 62 percent of the nation's business assets, 51 percent of stocks and 70 percent of bonds as of 2004, according to the latest data from the Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances -- which excludes the Forbes 400. That's way up from 1989, when the wealthiest 1 percent owned 54 percent of business assets, 41 percent of stocks and 52 percent of bonds.

Our growing economy is not producing a growing middle class, but a richer aristocracy.

The high point for median household income -- the income of the household in the middle -- was $47,671 in 1999, adjusted for inflation. In 2005, median household income was $1,345 less at $46,326. In the same period, the Forbes 400 gained more than 100 billionaires.

Government policies are fueling rising inequality. Taxpayers with incomes above $1 million will see their after-tax income grow by about 6 percent this year thanks to tax cuts the nation can't afford.

In an economy where money is flowing up to the very top, even college-educated workers are going backward. Inflation-adjusted median household income was lower in 2005 than 1999 even when the householder had a bachelor's degree, master's degree, professional degree or doctorate.

The problem is much bigger than the rich getting richer, while the poor get poorer. The really rich are getting richer at the expense of most everyone else.

Solutions include restoring the link between rising worker productivity and pay, raising the miserly minimum wage, narrowing the obscene pay gap between workers and CEOs, rolling back tax cuts for the wealthy -- and stop taxing income from work more than income from capital gains.|||Trickle-down economics" and "trickle-down theory," in United States political rhetoric, are characterizations by opponents (principally Democrats) of the policy of lowering taxes on high incomes and business activity. Proponents of these policies claim that they will promote new investment and economic growth, thereby indirectly benefitting people who do not directly pay the taxes. Opponents characterize this as a claim that the people who would otherwise pay the tax will distribute their benefit to less wealthy individuals, so that a fraction will reach the general population and stimulate the economy.[1] Proponents of the policies generally do not use the terms "trickle-down economics" themselves.

Today "trickle-down economics" is most closely identified with the economic policies of the Ronald Reagan administration, known as Reaganomics or supply-side economics. A major feature of these policies was the reduction of tax rates on capital gains, corporate income, and higher individual incomes, along with the reduction or elimination of various excise taxes. David Stockman, who as Reagan's budget director championed these cuts but then became skeptical of them, told journalist William Greider that the term "supply-side economics" was used to promote a trickle-down idea.[2]

The term "trickle-down" comes from an analogy with a phenomenon in marketing, the trickle-down effect.|||Study micro and marco economics it is a science. That will explain how it works any questions of reffering to redistribution of wealth is also explained. At the University level this is 2 classes or 6 hours of credit.

I said I will have a gold rolex oyster and pay you 10 euros for it!

He wandered off, within 10 minutes he was back , he showed me a gold rolex oyster, and asked for 10 euros, beamed at me and wandered off again.

Atheists, what would it take for you to believe in God?

Would you believe in God for a Rolls Royce of Bentley Motors vehicle? Would you become a Christian for $1,000,000? Would you take up the cross for your own private island in the Caribbean? Would you become a disciple of Christ for a top of the line Patek Philippe or Rolex watch?|||I'm a simple man. |||You miss the point. I could not believe that god exists if I was dying of cancer and you waved the cure in front of me. Because to believe that something exists I need proof it exists, not material incentives to 'help me' believe it exists.

On the other hand, I'll give you some pretty convincing lip service for the Caribbean Island or the other stuff.|||Actually, I already accept that a subjective God exists as an abstract concept held in common within the minds of most human beings. The thing is, I'm an atheist because I know for a fact that objective physical reality is separate and distinct from subjective mental experience. There is actually abundant evidence God exists within the mind of man. Unfortunately, there is absolutely no evidence He exists as part of the objective physical realm.

If Christianity were to abandon Scholasticism, with its erroneous Aristotelian worldview, and advance beyond the seventeenth century, I could happily become a believer in God as an intellectual abstraction. However, as long as the deliberate hypocrisy of pretending God objectively exists remains a requirement, as long as abandoning humanity's intellectual progress is necessary, as long abandoning my own education and embracing willful ignorance is expected, I shall remain an atheist.

What troubles me is that you imagine we atheists are so shallow and greedy we can be bribed to sacrifice our principles. Perhaps your question says more about your values than it does about atheists?|||All it would take is some credible (objective, verifiable, validatable) evidence that supports the existence of your particular god. I am not asking for proof, just some evidence.

You cannot bribe me to believe.|||Honestly, despite the humorous attempts at bribing us with money and sex, it's not going to happen unless God shows up, proves he exists and even then I won't worship. Why should I ? It's ridiculous EVEN IF THERE WAS A GOD. Even if he came down and rearranged the continents to say " I am God" and healed every amputee, cured every disease and raised all the dead people and created a Stargate directly to Heaven, the idea of worship would still be an insult both to myself and to Him. Of humans it says "We have no discipline, no pride and (currently) we are so afraid of death and an imaginary Hell that we'll give up on our most powerful tools in favor of 'protecting ourselves from Satan and his sneaky magic tricks of science and reason' ". Of God it says "You're an egotistical psychopath who'll kill people for not smooching your tush properly.".|||Maybe we would have more consideration and open our minds if you weren't so judgemental, you claim i am shallow and greedy yet you are the sort of person that would put me off seeking 'enlightenment'. This is an insight into why many people believe in god. It's known as Pascal's Wager, and it still fails.

What if you've chosen the wrong god, or the wrong religion?

Who else thinks that Peter Mandelson wearing a 21k watch at a Labour Conference is a disgrace!?

However, I would have to laugh at the notion that he should turn up in a cloth cap or duffel coat.

It's a bit of a joke really. I remember the days of old labour and the controversy of Michael Foot turning up at the cenotaph in a scruffy old duffel coat. He got slated for that and now we have Mandelson getting stick for turning up smart and wearing flash gear.

I did prefer the duffel coat gang.|||I bet he bought it claiming it was expenses dirty filthy politicians.|||he hasn't got a wife to spend it all for him, so he's got to buy something.|||Times money as the saying goes.

How can I become authorized retailer for jewelry and watches?

I like to become an authorized retailer for luxury jewelry and watches like rolex, cartier, patek philippe, audemars, omega and many other. I like to sell them on eBay. Who can give me information about this!|||You may become an authorized retailer of jewelry from Jewlery Vortex by opening a wholesale account. They have all sorts of jewlery that you can sell on ebay. As for the watches unless you have a retail store, no brand name watch company will give you a license as they do not like their brands to be sold cheaply online.|||Luxury watch manufacturers only sell through "brick and morter" stores of a high caliber. What are the costliest watch brands now?

Do we have any watch experts on YA? I am doing the 4th edition of a book about the costliest watch brands. In 3 editions, Breguet had a strong lead as the costliest brand. Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin and A. Lange %26amp; Sohne were 2nd, 3rd %26amp; 4th. Many people believe Rolex is costliest, but it placed 18th to 24th. It is 41st tentaively now. In basic dress watches, a Rolex "Cellini" costs $3650, but my Patek Philippe "Calatrava' costs $15,000 or 4.12 times more. In sports watches, my Rolex "Datejust" cost $13,150 in 1994, but my Breguet "Marine" cost $29,500 or 2.24 times more. For 2008, new brands are probably going to beat the old winners. A brand that began in 2001 offers a $429,000 platinum tourbillon watch. Behind it are a $347,100 Breguet and a $240,000 Patek Philippe. The new brand also offers a $135,000 gold chronograph rattrapante. 2nd to it is a $38,300 Blancpain. Can anyone tell if my watch I got from my brother a real Patek Philippe Tourbillion as he told me?

I uploaded a video on youtube to show you the watch I got from Michael. I took it to the jeweler and he couldn't tell if it's real or fake. My brother used to work in real estate and gave me the watch three years ago. He told me it's real, but I told him I doubt it. However, if you don't mind and can click on the link for me to have a look, I would appreciate you for helping me out on this. Let me know if you can tell.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnOFseuCEVM|||Based on what I see, I can tell you that you do NOT have an authentic watch. You can see the authentic watch at http://www.patek.com/html/en/ref_5002_.h鈥?/a>

First, the stitching on the band is very different from the stitching that Patek uses.

On the front, the real watch has a red second hand. The top dial on the real watch has a set of four roman numerals, whereas yours has the months. The real one has the months on the dial on the right, while yours has the day of the month.

On the back, the star pattern on the back is completely different. The numbers on the back of the real watch go from 1 to 24, on yours they go from 1 to 12. The hands are wrong, and the layout of the compass on the back (the E N W and S) is also wrong.

An authentic Patek Philippe tourbillion watch will be extremely expensive. As a result, there are many knock-offs, and many different qualities of knock-offs. Some of those knock-offs are more expensive than Citizen or Seiko watches that most people consider to be fairly nice. What is Patek Philippe?

Patek Phillipe is one of the most respected watch makers. It's part of the big 3 - the finest and most expensive watch brands, along with Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet. None of these are names that most have heard of and if you ask the average person what the best brand of watch is, they'd probably say Rolex just because it's more hyped and more mass produced.

In reality, Patek watches are much better made. Many steps are still done by hand and the watches themselves are much more complicated. A Patek watch will start at around 5 or 6 thousand, like a Rolex but goes up in price dramatically for the more complicated models. Many run over $100,000.

Patek Philippe watch?

I need help identifying this Patek Philippe watch. I want to know how much its worth and what model it is. On the back of the watch it says 750 in a box and next to that it says 3ATM. Next to that it says NO.119615. On the bottom of if it says Steel and Automatic. Then it says CCUE. On the one side of the strap it says PATEK PHILIPPE and on the other it says GENUINE LEATHER. Theres two buttons on each side of the watch and one dial. the buttons are almost like a triangle or rectangle shape. The watch shows time, year, month, day. There are 3 circles showing on the watch but i dont know what all of them stand for. One of them shows the days of the week, i think the other shows the day, and im not sure about the third circle. Above the circles are small rectangles showing the month and year.Thanks.|||Do you have the Certificate of Origin? If so it will give you a reference number which then you can google. To be honest I am having hard time with the information given. If it was me I would take it to an AD and have them look at it. Also, Patek keeps records of every watch they have ever made. If you go to there website and look under Patek Archive you can request the information by giving the numbers from the watch movement. And if you look at this other guy's questions of the past week or whenever, that's the kind of watch he is looking for. (Oh, and it wouldn't be an Italian loafer, but rather a Lobb bespoke ;) )

To the Question guy:

Look mate, if you want that watch that everyone will recognise, get the Rolex. BUT, remember, unless you can "pull off" wearing one, people will most likely think it's a fake.

What I mean is, if you don't look like/act like/ARE like the sort of person who can afford a luxury watch, people will be inclined to assume that what's on your wrist is fake.

So, unless you already have the reputation for being affluent, or are the up-and-coming yuppie type, well, I wouldn't bother with any expensive watch. Only get one if you really want it.

If you give some more info on what sort of job you have etc., then we could give you some better advice for a suitable watch for the image thing. But really? Wear what you like, BUT, if you must promote an image (for whatever reason, work etc.,) don't wear crap, please. Patek's are the top of the top tier, at least in my opinion. But, for your purposes, unless you hang with the sort that will recognise it for what it is, don't bother.

If you get one, it's a 'life piece', something to pass on (and will still retain value and style long after you're in the dirt, and long after watches fade from the scene).

I saw one of your other questions, about a watch that will pick up chicks or something... yeah sure flashing a rolex around might work in the short term to get some tail, but seriously? The kind of girl you'd pull wouldn't be of, erm... "the best repute", if catch my drift.

Goodluck on the choice.|||Rolex doesnt even come close to being one of the worlds best watchmakers in the world. Patek Phillipe is miles above what Rolex was or could ever hope to be. Patek is one of the most reknowned swiss watchmakers in the world and a true watch snob will gasp at the sight of one of these timepieces.

Rolex is extremely overrated. Their movements arent anything above average. They used to be quite good but their quality has steadily declined over time and are now a symbol of poor fashion sense for the upper middle class. But, in my opinion you should still own a Rolex, but make it the last watch you buy and wear it around your friends who know nothing about watches, as any true watch afficionado will laugh you out of the room.

Only the lucky can own a Patek Phillipe, but you and I can own fantastic famous watches for a great price, like: Maurice Lacroix, who in my opinion are one of the best value for money swiss watches out there. A moderately-priced Lacroix is about $5000 AUD, which is as good as it gets for the price tag. Breitling is another affordable and reknowned swiss watch. I own a Maurice Lacroix watch and an Armani watch - designer watches like Armani or Dior make sexy timepieces that arent exactly elite watchmaking but look the part and arent half bad.

Chanel have released a new line of mens automatic watches that are quite good.

To answer your question, Patek Phillipe crushes Rolex under the heel of its Italian loafer. Phillipe is for the worlds elite and is exclusive for a reason, it doesnt get much better.

Anyone know what model Patek Philippe this is also is it real?

Here are a few pics. It says ear - 2002 on back and swiss made. And is it real?

Real Patek Philippes have a serial number on the inside workings of their watches which can be identified. Otherwise, it might only be a fake outside casing with cheap inner workings, neither of which are real. Sorry...

How much does a Patek Philippe ref 560 costs (in UK pounds)?

USD price for a gold one is about $15000. So roughly $7500 pounds. I'm not sure if they're cheaper over there, but I'm pretty sure that they're about the same.|||It should be around 2000 pounds but not sure about your particular reference

My Patek Philippe says "conplication" instead of 'complication'?

Is there anything wrong with it, is it authentic?|||You are full of it. You dont own an authentic Patek Phillipe you fool - unless you've spent at least a good $20k it is not authentic - the quality control at PP is second to none there is no way an error like that would be allowed to leave the factory. Fake watches are for fake people.|||Where did you get the watch? They wouldn't mess up something like that so it's probably fake. If it is authentic, they would most likely replace the dial at no charge.

Why are watches like Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Girard-Perregaux so Pricey?

Are they really superior time pieces (mechanically) compared to watches such as Rolex, Omega, Oris etc?|||YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR .
